Had a delightful lunch at the Harborside Restaurant with great friend Ken Buck today. We’ve been friends since LBJ was President. For you history buffs…that’s a long, long time. (Kim Warner, friend since “Ike” ran things was invited but couldn’t make it.) I suspected we were in for a great lunch when I checked in with the Maitre D’. He smiled and said with a grin: “Your party has not yet arrived…we are very familiar with Mr. Buck.” (“Cool!”)

Ken arrived moments later and ordered the perfect wine…and a tasty appetizer. The “Lump Crab Tower”, is The Harborside Restaurant’s signature starter with avocado, papaya, and lump crab presented with artistically drizzled sauces…almost too pretty to eat. I had my first Kobe Beef Burger and it was delicious. Ken, an accomplished oenophile, picked the perfect fish dish to complement his wine selection.
It was a real treat for me to see my friend again. When “Bucko” and “Beaner” are together the laughs just follow naturally. We always pick up where we left off, as if it has only been a couple of days. He’s been making me laugh and smile for almost 50 years. As good as the food was it paled in comparison to the company. Maybe next time we’ll have the good fortune to have Kim Warner join us too!
By the way: The difference between a good friend and a great friend? A good friend will help you move. A great friend will help you move a body. Ken is a great friend.
