I am so proud of HRC, the President and the Democrats. The President worked on this doggedly from day one. He resisted a politically favorable temporary solution that could be ignored later and wouldn’t have had the support of the Pentagon, in favor of a real permanent solution. HRC has, of course, worked to persistently and strategically to rid this country of policies of LGBT discrimination in the military for almost 30 years. The Democrats have been unified with support, with some minor exceptions, for over 20 years. FINALLY, some Republicans defied their party’s leadership to do what is right to garner the 60+ vote necessary.
It is right and important for our community to take some time to celebrate this success. So today, we exult in this achievement.
Then, we come together, use this momentum and redouble our efforts to move on to equal important arenas where we are treated like second class citizens, like enacting ENDA, partnership rights, marriage and overturning DOMA.
I am SO proud to be an ardent supporter of President Obama, the Human Rights Campaign, and the Democratic party.
