My fabulous brother-in-law, Terry, has devoted his life to achieving equal rights for gay Americans. A proud day for all of us in Oregon was May 9th, 2007 when Governor Ted Kulongoski signed legislation creating “domestic partnerships” for gays and lesbians in the state. He also signed a bill that outlawed discrimination based on sexual orientation. We follow the path to equality for all one step at time, and sometimes we step backward as in the recent election regarding rescinding gay marriage in California, but Terry and others will never give up the fight. It is days like this one that remind us all that victory is possible.
