Bro-in-law, Terry Bean, was in the middle of history again when he stood up as co-best man for groom, Barney Frank. Barney became the first sitting congressman to be married to a partner of the same sex when he married his long time love, James Ready, yesterday. The couple’s vows included promises to love each other through through Democratic and Republican administrations alike, on MSNBC or on Fox and in Congress or in retirement.
The evening wedding took place at the Boston Marriott Newton in suburban Boston, attracting political luminaries including Nancy Pelosi, top Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives, and Elizabeth Warren, who is battling Republican Scott Brown for his U.S. Senate seat in Massachusetts. – MSNBC
The newlyweds first met at a fundraiser in 2005. Jim was attending with his terminally ill longtime partner, Robert Palmer and Barney was struck by the deep devotion of Jim to his partner. The two became friends and after Palmer’s death the friendship gradually deepen into love.
“I told him I had a crush on him for 20 years,” said Mr. Ready, recalling that as a teenager he was inspired by Mr. Frank’s public declaration that he was gay.
And what did Mr. Frank make of that? “That I’m being rewarded for coming to this fund-raiser,” he said with a laugh. – New York Times
Terry and Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, enjoyed a dance at the wedding reception to ZZ Top’s “Sharp Dressed Man”. Rick commented on Facebook: “We all knew Madame Speaker was a great leader. Who knew she could also follow so well.”
Congratulations Mr. Frank and Mr. Ready! The Beans wish you both many years of happiness!
